Leaf Dance
Saturday, Oct. 12, 1:30-3:30 pm in Takoma Park, MD | NO FRAGRANCES, PLEASE.
$20-$45 sliding scale (scale explained below)  Directions
     Two hours of solid trance dance to honor the deciduous trees releasing their leaves to the ground. Dance and chant in ceremonial space, taking breaks as needed. Intention: honor the "leaf fall" time of year by releasing what we need to shed. A great ceremony and initiatory practice by itself, it's also great preparation for the journey group at 4:00 if you want to stay for that. Great deepening exercise for beginning, intermediate, and advanced journeyers.

     Tens of thousands of chemical substances are an intrinsic part of our modern life. Not all chemicals are bad but many are toxic, and their harm to our environment and our health outweighs their benefits. Tom Malterre joins Pedram Shojai to discuss how we can avoid deadly chemicals in our everyday lives and how to detoxify them from the body.

Fragrance-Free Tips
Those wearing strong scent will be turned away. Please help us make this event available to me and others with chemical sensitivities by keeping your clothes, body, and hair fragrance-free. For the full list, see my website; some of the biggest offenders are

  • laundry products (detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets);
  • cosmetics and hair products (scented shampoos, conditioners, gel, mousse);
  • scented moisturizers; and
  • incense, essential oils.
Note: "Natural" and "organic" products are still loaded with fragrance.

EASY TIP: If you don't want to switch to a non-scented detergent with "free and clear" on the label, you can set aside clothes to wear here that have been through a special wash of 1 cup baking soda to remove the worst of the fragrance. Use just baking soda and water, no detergent, unless it's labeled "Free and Clear", and no softener or dryer sheets. Some scent will still be present, as it takes many washings to remove the fragrance, but it's usually good enough. Once washed with soda, you can store the clothes in a tightly closed box or plastic bag away from fragrant clothes or in the trunk of your car if you have one.

What is "Sliding Scale?" "Sliding scale" allows you to select the price that's most appropriate for your budget and situation within the given range. For example, if the workshop fee is $60-$95, you could pay $60 or $75 or $90 or $95. Those who pay at the higher levels are making a donation to help those in financial need. Please remember that for a sliding scale to work, we need the same number of people with means to generously pay more to balance the needs of those who can afford less.
