Opening
We usually start off by sharing briefly any personal “holy day” anniversaries.
Singing and Dancing
We sing a simple chant
and start dancing, which goes about 15 minutes.
During the dancing, I suggest that you do one or more of the following:
1. Call yourself to be fully present (forget the traffic you encountered getting to the group and also let go of the grocery shopping you have to do the next day, etc.); relax and settle into the group and the journey work;
2. Call your spiritual help (any known guides, power animals, etc.) to be with you; if unknown, call out for your guide to reveal itself during the dancing or journeying; and
3. Call your “Source,” the whole of Mystery, the All That Is, God, Goddess, etc. to be with you and inside you.
The First Journey
We then move into the first journey, which is usually for yourself. If you have not journeyed before, your journey focus is usually “I’d like to meet my connection to Source at this time.” (For journey instructions, see the two-page fact sheet, Harner-Method Shamanic Journey.) The first journey often lasts 15 to 20 minutes. We take some time to take a few notes and to share all or part of our journeys.
The Second Journey
We do a second journey, usually for someone else in the group. If you are a beginner, you will likely want to do this second journey for yourself, not for someone else, so you can pick up where you left off in the first journey and get clearer on your connection to Source.
